I woke, a low growl from the large wolf warning me.

Mercer. He had shifted and I could tell via our bond he was hungry and feral. He was all wolf. I wasn’t even sure if he could recognize me. I laid still, wondering what I should do next. Would he attack?

The wolf growled again before fleeing into the night. I put my head down on my arms, my jaw clenched. I had done all that work, and the man was now feral. Rogue. Gone.

Tears pricked my eyes, but I refused to let them fall.

My wolf urged me to change and follow her Alpha, revealing it was more than food she was looking for.

“Bad wolf. You don’t get to fuck the Alpha.” I mumbled into my hands. I would not shift. I would not go looking for him now. I closed my eyes tight, falling into a restless sleep.
